It also has the original brass ring next to the case under the key to protect the finish. This is rare to have a label, many are torn or completely missing by now. Has a 100% complete instruction label on the cover which is the original label, and it matches this type of metronome movement. The cover door has a hook and eye latch that holds the door securely closed, and two steel pins on the bottom that fit in the base of the metronome. Most importantly: It keeps an even beat on a level surface whether the sliding weight is set to 40 or 208 - a challenge to find in other metronomes described as "working perfectly".

So, you can easily get 40 BPM if you slide the weight almost to the tip of the stick. The calibration is 2% fast at 40 BPM, 1% fast at 80 and only 1% slow at 160 and 200 BPM.

This metronome was also just calibrated at 88 beats per minute and will run for over 3000 beats per full winding.

The mainspring barrel does have a stop wheel to prevent overwinding, a somewhat useful feature, but you should have trouble free operation if the winding directions on the label are followed. Everything remains original to this movement to preserve its antique value, including the longer mainsprings used by Hamilton to ensure very accurate time keeping between windings. I have included a picture of the movement so you can see its inner beauty and cleanliness, which is also rare to find in an antique metronome. It should not need cleaning again for about 10 to 20 years. After cleaning, the entire movement was oiled with synthetic clock oil, and then tested. This was done for you so you can enjoy it right away rather than waiting on a repair shop. This is a labor-intensive service where the entire movement was disassembled, cleaned, each gear was inspected for damage, pivots polished, hard brass bushings added where needed (pressed in from the inside of the movement), mainspring removed, cleaned and lubricated, and re-assembled. Not many of the other metronomes you may find elsewhere get this kind of service. The brass movement was just ultrasonically cleaned with a high-quality clock cleaning solution, adjusted and oiled, saving you at least $160 over other "as found" metronomes. Only a classic mechanical metronome produces the solid and desirable "wood block" ticking sound. The ticks on this metronome are just as loud as those ticks typically found in Seth Thomas metronomes. It has a wide, very visual pendulum swing with its original sliding weight to adjust the tempo, and a very even, loud ticking sound as it runs.

It has a near-perfect condition, signed "H" trademark beat scale, resembling the logo for the Hamilton Watch company in Lancaster, PA. Please see all pictures and notice how beautiful this piece is! Since this is an antique, there are some signs of age-related usage on the instrument, but no signs of abuse. All exterior brass trim has been polished and re-lacquered to help prevent future tarnish. The front dust cover door is the original one, and it fits well over the opening, and it is a perfect match to the rest of the case. The dark oak or walnut stained wood case is made out of solid wood, possibly birch (no veneers) and is a pretty and uniform deep brown grain throughout, with small bumps from some touch-ups. The original finish on all sides shines up well and is stable with no alligator which you should be able to confirm in the close-up pictures. It is a real treasure to find and was made I think in the 1920s but could be older.

Those sellers that do this detailed movement service will say so in their listings. You will probably not find another one of these in this nice of condition with the movement already serviced. They are somewhat harder to see from a distance in the pictures and may be detracting up close, so I wanted to point this out for you and take clear pictures. A few bumps, scratches and scuffs in the wood finish are on this metronome as would be expected from one this old. This Hamilton brand has a robust and solid wood case with no loose parts, or splits - even the wood feet pads are solidly attached to the bottom to avoid loss. This is a Hamilton brand due to its case construction, instruction label and beat scale logo that matches the other Hamilton metronomes I have sold and has the original Hamilton brass trim plate on the cover. This fully serviced metronome runs strong like it was brand new. This is a RARE, beautiful, All-Original and completely restored, Antique Hamilton wind-up Metronome.
